Lent Lunches 2020

February 23 2020

Tuesday 25 February is Pancake Day when we enjoy stacks of pancakes filled with our favourite flavours. Maybe that’s syrup, fresh lemon juice and sugar, or bananas and chocolate spread? What is your favourite filling?

The Christian calendar calls this day Shrove Tuesday. The next day is Ash Wednesday, traditionally the start of the Lenten Period in the Christian calendar. The ashes represent the burning of the palms which were used to cover Jesus’s path as he entered Jerusalem.

Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to Easter. It is a time of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter.

On each of the six Saturdays during Lent, Churches Together in Cheadle Hulme put on the Lenten Lunches, hosted by a different church each Saturday.

29 February at St Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Vicarage Avenue

7 March at Friends Meeting House on Station Road

14 March at Grove Lane Baptist Church on Grove Lane

21 March at All Saints on Church Road

28 March at United Reformed Church on Swann Lane

4 April at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church on Station Road.

Each event starts at 12 noon and lasts for an hour or so. Lunch is a delicious bowl of warming soup and crusty bread. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge but a donation towards a named charitable cause is welcome.

The Lunches are an opportunity to get together to enjoy good, simple food and good conversation. Get to know other people, meet friends, make friends and catch up.

If you have any queries please email CTCH Secretary, Sheila Richardson.
