A stargazing evening
May 13 2026

At the beginning of Christian Aid Week 2026, Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church hosted a second successful concert by the award winning Poynton Brass Band. They have been going for 201 years; yes 201 years! Last year they serenaded us with music from the movies; this year we were transported into space.
From the first number, the well known theme from 2001 Space Odyssey, to the last which was a rousing rendition of Gaelfoce, the Band produced a wonderful sound which worked wonderfully well within the acoustics of the Church’s Sanctuary. The Musical Director, David W Ashworth transported us through numbers such as Jupiter (Holst – the Planets), the very moving Iona, but one of the highlights was a terrific trumpet solo by 16 year old Alex on Rusalka’s Song to the Moon.
An excellent attendance at the concert which helps raise money for Christian Aid and particularly for the Sudan appeal. The Sudan crisis falls very much under the radar and yet has caused terrible suffering and hundreds of thousands of refugees. Christian Aid works with partners on the ground to help alleviate these problems.
A big thank you to our team at the Methodist Church who worked very hard to make this a memorable event.
